3rd and last day in San Francisco (8th of June 2012)

Well, our very last day was as wonderful as all the others. First thing first we checked out of our room at the Adelaide Hostel.Was not too sad to leave the Hostel but sad we only had half a day left in San Francisco.So after we checked out they were nice enough and locked our luggage in an extra room for a few hours. Then we had time to go for a little shopping spree and see downtown from different sides.

After spending a few hours in the centre, we picked up the car and headed to Sausalito, which is known as a very artistic, beautiful and touristic place.
On our way to Sausalito we crossed the famous GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE.
This experience was absolutely breathtaking.

Then arriving in Sausalito we walked a long the lovely streets, with amazing art galleries and delightful little bakeries.
Having stepped into all the lovely Galleries and touristic shops, we stumbled across a beautiful Arts Gallerie called Galerie Judith Engelstad. Defiantly something you should check out. It is very expensive but beautiful art from various countries. I found myself gazing at paintings for quite some time. 

A while after, we went into a very small Bakery, called Sausalito Bakery & Cafe, and bought two coffees and the two most scrumptious chocolate chip cookies I have ever eaten.The cookies were massive and absolutely succulent.

Afterwards we drove back over the Golden Gate Bridge and headed towards the famous Haight Street.
This street is supposed to be artistic and have a huge hippie vibe but I was a little disappointed to see too much mainstream going on.
On the other hand there were a lot of massive vintage stores and small oriental shops.
BUT I have to say that there was one store that absolutely blew my mind, it is called Loved To Death. This small store has lovely/unusual art, jewelry and various other objects. Funny enough the owners and the very shop have been featured in magazines and on television.Later on we went to the Golden Gate Park, which was very relaxing.

Those were my three wonderful days in San Francisco.

2nd day in SAN FRANCISCO (7th of June 2012)

After a well-deserved sleep until 9:00 am we got ready for a little surprise, planned by Patrick, for me. So, we hopped on a Taxi and surprise, surprise he booked a boat trip to Alcatraz. I was so excited because I just love history that is so near to our time.
A 10-minute taxi ride later we arrived at Pier 33 where we boarded to get to Alcatraz Island. The boat ride was beautiful as you could see the Golden Gate, Alcatraz Island and various other beautiful views. But if I could give any advice, take two pullovers so you do not freeze to death or just sit in the closed areas.
Arriving on the Island was very exciting but getting to the prison was even better. We were given an Audio guide that guided and explained everything about the prison, prison breaks, prisoners, guards, Alcatraz Island, cells and a lot more.

Then we got back to the area called Embarcadero and walked to the Fisherman’s Wharf, which was quite touristic, but a must-do.
We walked and enjoyed the sunny day taking a route towards Chinatown. On our way there, we past the steepest street in San Fran called the Lombard Street. A crazy steep hill!

At about 12:30 pm we stopped at a restaurant called PELLEGRINI, situated in the best-known Italian district, North Beach. We were not sure what to expect but the food was an absolute delight. YES, we LOVE ITALIAN food and you should defiantly go to PELLEGRINI if you are in San Francisco!

 

A very long walk later, we passed Chinatown (one of the biggest in the United States) feeling like we just took a trip to China not understanding a single word being said.
As much as we enjoyed Chinatown we headed back to the union square to have a relaxed espresso and hit the all American stores.

Three hours later, exhausted and hungry, we got an inside tip from a San Franciscan (working in Starbucks) to go to a Chinese restaurant called Hunan. It was okay food with okay prices but we ordered too much.
Too much food later we enjoyed Chinatown by night.

I can only say that I absolutely enjoyed my second day in San Francisco and the city is like the never-ending story of a lot of beautiful surprises.

First day in SAN FRANCISCO (6th of June 2012)

Okay,
If you have never been in San Francisco you better start planning your trip there.
I spent three days in this beautiful city and everything was amazing.
From Santa Barbara it took five hours via car. And the countryside by the 101 Highway is pretty cool. There is actually no other way to tell you.

Patrick and I arrived late afternoon and stayed in “Adelaide Hostel“ situated in Downtown San Fran.
It wasn’t the best Hostel but it was okay for Bed & Breakfast.
After getting settled and unpacked we decided to get a first impression of one of the greatest cities in the world. So, we wondered through places near downtown like the Union Square and walked towards Fishermans Wharf.

The Embarcadero

As time was running out we got back to the Hostel and luckily were given a few tips, on where to eat.
We randomly decided to go to a restaurant called PERBACCO that is situated in the California Street, which is the financial district.
The food was great and the service was spot on but sadly a little too pricy.
After dinner we walked back to Adelaide Hostel enjoying the quiet and clean streets.
If there is one thing I would definitely do, I would take a night stroll past the financial district to your destination and always keep looking up at the great skyscrapers.
